Tony Romo Goes to the Movies

So, Sam, my 16-year-old, and I went to the movies last night to see Gone Baby Gone. Great movie, by the way. We went to the Studio Movie Grill in West Plano, and it appeared to be a slow night. On the way out, however, we noticed that all the other people who saw the movie with us were part of Tony Romo's entourage. They included teammate Bobby Carpenter and Mr. Romo's parents. The Cowboys quarterback recently told Sports Illustrated that going to the Studio Movie Grill is one of his favorite activities.

Food Czar Review # 6: Studio Movie Grill
Food Czar has a very detailed review of Studio Movie Grill which can be found here for your reading enjoyment.

Dallas already has its own full service restaurant/movie theatre - The Studio Movie Grill. I know Dallas is conservative but Studio Movie Grill hosts so many cool events that the place is packed almost every night of the week. Yes, they are a haven for corporate events, but they also host the Dallas Film Series which screens some of the best independent films from Texas and around the world. Most of these screenings include filmmaker, cast and crew meet and greets followed by Q&A. Studio Movie Grill also may have the best presentation in the country. I've actually heard filmmakers say, "This is how my film was intended to be seen." There studio screenings are always packed and usually have some unique twist like the red carpet X-MEN screening or the MIAMI VICE screening with the Donzi boat parked out front and Bacardi Mojito's in the auditorium.

Rex C's Yelp post:

I have been to The Alamo and Studio Movie Grill and the Studio Movie Grill wins hands down.  The waiters at Studio Movie Grill are armed with wireless devices that put your order in right when you order.  The food and drink comes out fast.  You get alot of food for your dollar so my advice is to order foods to share like nachos, pizza, etc.

Sadly, at the Alamo, I might have my drink by the time the Studio Movie Grill would have given me my food, and drink, and I'm finished eating.  So go to the Studio Movie Grill as the service is much better and faster!

Shana P.'s Yelp post:

This is a great place to get food that is actually good while you watch a movie.  Studio Movie Grill is new on the scene in Houston and is planning on expanding.

Currently with one location in Copperfield, the Studio Movie Grill did an amazing job of promoting itself.  They passed out free movie tickets to kids at the library just as summer got off to a start last year and created amazing word of mouth buzz about their Grand Opening.

The food is much better than average here so you don't feel like you loaded up on junk food and sat through yet another movie.  The staff here is great and will make sure all of your needs are met without interrupting your big screen entertainment.

Watch for a new location at Town and Country in 2008.

As promised a few months ago, I went to the Studio Movie Grill in Copperfield and am here to tell you all about it.

One afternoon, I met Leslie, a girl I work with, there to see The Devil Wears Prada (Stop laughing! Sometimes a girl just needs to watch a girly movie!). We were both able to purchase student tickets ($5.00), but even the regular $6.00 matinee price is perfectly reasonable. When we were given our tickets, we were also given a menu and a coaster light (similar to those vibrating squares you get a restaurant when you're waiting for a table). The coaster light had a button on it to push to alert the staff when you needed assistance.

I had eaten lunch just a few hours before, so I decided to go with the old standby combination of soda and popcorn. The soda ($2.50) came in a big (non-disposable) cup and was refilled by the server as needed. The popcorn ($2.99) was served in a low, wide bowl (probably 8-10 inches across and 4 inches tall) along with a little bowl of melted butter. Leslie had water and the grilled chicken house salad ($9.99). While $10 for a salad is a bit steep (to me, at least) for a salad, once we saw the size of it, we decided it could easily be split between two or three people (and maybe it was meant to be). She ended up taking enough salad home to eat it for another meal or two. It was giant and she said it was delicious. Our server dropped the checks off about 30 minutes before the movie ended, but didn't expect us to disturb our movie-watching to get our money out right away. There was no problem having our food put on separate checks.

I will definitely be back and next time, I'll go on an empty stomach so I can branch out and try a few more menu items (chips & salsa! mmm!).

Total money spent (for ticket, soda & popcorn): $10.49
Compared to other local theaters, I'd say my money went further than normal.

Next up on my must-see movie list: Pulse (because I'm a huuuuge Veronica Mars fan), and probably Snakes on a Plane (because, how cool is this?!).

Studio Movie Grill is located in Copperfield at 8580 Highway 6
North & West Road.

Four Stars: Studio Movie Grill

Pretty much everybody that knows me knows that I hate people. I don’t enjoy going to the movies with the masses, I don’t like to go out to eat if I have to wait for a table (again, with the masses). Don’t get me wrong: I don’t think I’m better than anyone, I just don’t like most people, as they tend to be rude and inconsiderate (hello cell phones and bad service?). So imagine my surprise when I encountered the little oasis that is Studio Movie Grill. Kevin really wanted to go see the new Pirates movie, and so I bought the tickets online, and off we went.

First of all, I can’t even tell you how great the service was. We were greeted and thanked about 100 times. The servers genuinely seemed to care that we had everything we needed. And the food? Tasty and quick to your table (yes, table). Pitchers of beer, dessert, the whole nine yards. And if you needed something in the middle of the movie, there was always somebody right there to help you—-WITHOUT being invasive and/or getting in the way of the screen.

Long story short? I’ll totally be back. That’s right: me. The me that doesn’t like people. The me that HATES going to the movies. I’m so in love with this place that Kevin is going to have a hard time keeping me away.
