Why We're Watching

There is a strong sense of style and atmosphere in each of Disney’s recent live-action adaptations, and that is certainly the case for Aladdin. From the exotic Arabian city of Agrabah, to hidden troves of dazzling treasure, to a magical genie comedian, Aladdin is definitely “a whole new world”. But, with the visual splendor also comes the dreamy, musical, mythic romance that so many of us experienced in 1992. It’s almost impossible to believe that the imagery from the classic could be even be done justice in live-action, but the trailers alone look fantastical, and Will Smith’s Genie continues to intrigue us. He is certainly a source of some of the modern and stylized flavor that this Aladdin will be delivering.
