Why We're Watching
Seth Rogan and Charlize Theron. The title says it all. Yes, the movie has an eccentric plot, one that raises eyebrows, in more than one way. But the “long shot” here is that a Secretary of State bidding for President would wind up dating a comedy writer. Not that a female nominee would need to be so obsessed with optics that she would need to hide said relationship. Because the latter is definitely true. But, that’s what happens, as Theron is supposedly too cold and stiff for the voters to relate to her, but also too polished to date Rogan. And it’s this double standard that leads to the film’s raunchy comedy, as both Theron and Rogan desperately attempt to rub off on each other just enough… but not too much. The two may be as different as two actors could be, but they definitely have comedic synergy in this film. So… maybe not such a Long Shot after all???
