SMG's Chefs for Children Makes Dreams Come True

Calan and Lawson Copp are two adventurous little boys who wake up every morning excited by what the new day will bring. From softball to wheelchair racing to rock climbing, they want to try anything and everything. This zest for life is something their parents nurture but because of their mitochondrial disorders, even something as simple as taking a bath or moving around their home can be challenging and dangerous.
Through a partnership with Studio Movie Grill, Variety – the Children’s Charity of Texas provided Calan and Lawson with the mobility equipment they needed to be able to move freely and safely as well as covered the costs of Calan’s adaptive summer camp program, so he could have the full camp experience in an inclusive environment tailored to his needs. Furthermore, Variety provided the boys with a once-in-a-lifetime experience: getting to throw out the opening pitch at a Houston Astros game.
