Chance The Rapper Visits SMG
SMG Chatham

The opening of the remodeled SMG Chatham theater on Chicago’s South Side, included a robust community and grass-roots series of events, launched with Alderman Brookin’s VIP Oscar celebration of seven African American nominations on February 26. The same day, Chatham native and recent Grammy-winner Chance the Rapper came out to the theater, generously purchased all tickets for every screening of “Get Out,” and gave them to members of the community.
SMG gives kids a Chance to shine!
Chance returned to SMG Chatham on March 25, where he surprised eight local schoolchildren with an announcement that they'd been selected for the top honor at this year's Bud Billiken Parade — the Royal Court. Children and parents welcomed Chance like a returning hero, with wild cheers, flashing phone cameras and loud applause. Chance thanked the children for their hard work in school and for submitting the essays required to win a place on the 88-year-old parade’s Children's Royal Court.
