Why We're Watching
“Elton’s life is an R-rated life.” This is what Paramount stated after the rating of Rocketman was confirmed, and it speaks volumes about this fantasy musical. This won’t be, as some may assume, a biopic. It does loosely follow Elton John’s life events, but it also incorporates imaginative use of music, performance, and the song “Rocketman” itself as inspiration for the fictional aspects of this movie. As if anyone could ever call Elton boring to begin with, there is now even more fuel behind the parties, the drugs, the costumes, the personal turmoil, and the wild sex life. Indeed, visual spectacle, passion, and style are center stage, indicating that Elton was heavily involved in the making of the film. And that has to be one of the best reasons to watch we can think of.
