Why We're Watching

How can you not love the idea of a 14-year-old being able to transform into an adult superhero? Tonally, Shazam! is getting this right. There are stakes, and there is danger, but Billy/Shazam is definitely going to have some hilarious growing pains while discovering his new powers. We all fantasized about having superpowers when we were his age, and wondered about all things we’d do (besides saving the world) with them. Among the DCEU, there is definitely room for this comical, crass, and endearing superhero. Shazam may not be one of DC’s most recognizable faces at the moment, but if this origin film lives up to the hype, that may change soon.
