Why We're Watching
As unlikely as it sounds, The Kid Who Would Be King may have some of the most profound and significant messages in a movie you’ve seen in a while. A children’s film from across the ocean that dusts off one of the most recognizable and classic fables is not where you’d expect to find genuine and inspiring life advice mixed with colorful fantasy battles and silly pop culture references. As the wizard Merlin (Patrick Stewart) proclaims in one especially important scene, every generation needs the encouragement and empowerment to write old legends anew. As young Alex succeeds in putting differences aside and rounding up the support of his friends and enemies alike in order to stand a chance against a greater threat, we venture to believe that it may be films like The Kid Who Would Be King that help create the world-changers of tomorrow.
