Prince Rogers Nelson (June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016) was a musical innovator and rock-n-roll legend. He sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award for the film Purple Rain. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Rolling Stone ranked Prince at number 27 on its list of 100 Greatest Artists.
Purple Rain is a 1984 American rock musical drama film directed by Albert Magnoli, produced by Robert Cavallo, Joseph Ruffalo, and Steven Fargnoli, and written by Magnoli and William Blinn. Purple Rain is the only feature film that Prince starred in but did not direct.

Prince died at his Paisley Park recording studio and home in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on April 21, 2016, at the age of 57. In tribute of Prince’s untimely death, SMG featured Purple Rain in April 2016 to sold-out theaters of Prince fans across the country paying honor to a legend.
