It is long overdue for Hannah to jump into the water and see where the current leads. For years, she has catered to her two grown sons. One day, after picking up her grandson at school, she stops alongside the river to watch some ice swimmers. When a man named Brona waves in distress, she rushes into the water to help. Her dip into the icy water just might change her life forever.

In this tragic comedy, director Bohdan Sláma continues to examine familiar themes — broken family relationships, the quest for love and happiness, and the characters’ ability to transform their lives. Ice Mother received a best screenplay award at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and 6 Czech Lions, including the Best Picture, this year. It also represented the Czech Republic in the 2018 Oscar competition for Best Foreign Language Film.
